Positron Telecommunication System, Canadian company founded in 2008 as a spin-off of Positron Holding Inc. (founded in 1970) specializes in the design and manufacture of communications cards, has launched a completely new Asterisk concept in the world market with the Positron Asterisk board.
We are all used to PCI cards, but here we have real media gateway with integrated PBX functionality, embedded on a PCI board. The new cards for Asterisk Positron constitute an absolute novelty in the established panorama of hardware to / from the PSTN in the world of Open Source Telephony.
The main points in these cards that we tested:
- Support FXS and ISDN BRI
- Support PRI
- Fast Ethernet interface card on board to use as a real Media Gateway
blade-asterisk-Asterisk pre-installed on board on a Chip!
- Graphical configuration simple and intuitive to use
- Powered via PCI bus
- Can be installed on any PC with Linux on board and / or Windows
- Reset button to return to factory configuration
- Supported on any server with PCI cards
- Supported on Virtual Machine VM-Ware!
- Support for Flash compac available to install more apps
- Hardware Echo Cancel on board high-performance ASIC-based chip
- Blackfin Technology management Codecs
- Scalable solutions “Blade Asterisk”
Test and Review
We tested the ISDN 4BRI card with 1 x FXS , the respective tests were:
⇒ Connect to BRI ISDN Point-to-Multipoint from Telecom Italia
⇒ Connect to a FXS Analogue Telephone
⇒ Connect to the Fast Ethernet port on the network 192.168.1.0
The Poistron Asterisk Card has been inserted on a server with 1 GB of RAM and processor basis.
The operating system used was a Ubuntu 9:04
The card was immediately recognized on the PCI bus and we were able to access it via browser.
Here are the steps for configuring and screenshots:
>> Access through browser
>> System Information
>> 4 Configuring ISDN BRI
The ISDN BRI were at 2 x RJ45 ports each connected to a splitter to give us a total of 4 BRI (8 channels simultaneous)
>> Management of the Interior (SIP, IAX and / or analog FXS)
>> Call 6005 indoor Zoiper based SIP phone to FXS 6001
Positron cards have the huge advantage of being able to be installed on board any PC / Server without any pre-installed drivers being required to function. Unlike competitors the Positron Asterisk Cards can be used on Linux and Windows (2003).
Positron has also developed a Master / Slave high reliability for the synchronization of two cards in order to implement redundant solutions with automatic backup and recovery in case of fault.
The CPU load during testing was very minimal, even on the ASIC used for the management of eco cancel and Blackfin adopted for the transcoding.
>> Called from inside the urban line to ISDN BRI
The Web Console monitoring allows you to make tracking of calls (call-stage set-up, trying, ringing, etc …)
>> Inbound call from ISDN inwards 6001
The configuration of routing incoming BRI calls is carried out using the special section “Incoming Calls”.
>> CDR – View card call
>> Firmware update
>> Outgoing Call Routing
>> Voicemail and Conference Room
To support FAX over IP Positron adopts T.38 SPAN DSP solution, among the best on the market to support FAX over SIP.
