Positron Microsoft OCS: inside Card solution

Positron Telecommunicaton systems integrate on a single Card the functionalities of a PSTN – SIP Gateway and of a powerful Asterisk IP PBX.

Microsoft OCS R2 is a Microsoft Communication system able to integrate in the Office Suite some interesting features, like the distributed presence associated with the Outlook Contacts and Sharepoints or Microsoft Dynamics Leads/Prospects/Customers.

Although Microsoft has certified some Media Gateways, it is very interesting to integrate the Positron Full IP PBX Card with the Microsoft OCS R2 Suite, for the following reasons:

- Positron Telecommunication Cards (analog, BRI and PRI) use the PCI slot just for the basic power supply purposes, so they can work very well inside a Virtual Server Environment (i.e. using VmWare or Hyper-V)
- The software inside the Positron Cards is the Open Asterisk 1.6.X branch, so it perfectly fit with the SIP TCP and TLS Microsoft Signallin Protocol Archietcture
- Althoungh Microsoft OCS certified some Gateway to interconnect the system to the PSTN, the Positron solution represent the first real PCI Card working with SIP inside to interconnect the OCS with the PSTN lines, from analog to ISDN BRI and PRI
- Cost effective: the Positron solution is scalable and the prices are pretty much affordable compared to other solutions

The Testing Environment

The experimental test have been perfomed using:

- Microsoft OCS, Mediation Server and Exchange Server over Hyper-V based using Microsoft Windows 2008 O.S.
- Each Virtual Machine (OCS, Mediation, …) running over Windows 2003 server
- V-214 Positron 4 BRI card inside a PCI server slot

All the testing have been performed in the Xenia Laboratory indipendent environment using DELL and HP physical servers.

Results

- We succeeded to make working a TCP SIP Trunking between the OCS Mediation Server and the Positron ISDN Card
- The following is a short snapshot of the working call from the Microsoft Office Communicator Softphone to the X-Lite Counterpath phone registerd on the Positron Cards

- After the above result has beed easy to place a call from the Microsoft Office Communicator (MOC) softphone to the ISDN BRI line connected with the Positron card (outgoing)
- Incoming calls from the ISDN BRI card have been managed by the Asterisk Positron Inside Switch and routed to the Microsoft Mediation server up to the MOC phone
